History & About
As you wander Ybor City’s storied streets, the scent of hand-rolled cigars and the sounds of bustling 7th Avenue are a reminder of the neighborhood’s enduring spirit. Hotel Haya, which rose from the historic façade of Las Novedades, is a celebration of that same community, reimagined for today.
Our name honors the roots of Ybor City, carrying the spirit of the founding fathers and cigar artisans who established our neighborhood. We are proud to pay homage to Ignacio Haya whose cigar factory, Haya y Sanchez, was significant for rolling the first cigar in Tampa. Haya was instrumental in building Ybor City alongside another notable cigar manufacturer Vicente Ybor for whom our neighborhood was named. Haya’s factory was one of the first in the nation to make cigars from the light-colored Cuban tobacco called “Clear Havana.”
Revitalized casitas and brick façade storefronts along 7th Avenue are shining examples of Ybor City’s rebirth. It all comes together at Hotel Haya. Through careful renovation and reimagining, the iconic past of Ybor and thoughtful new construction join together in a boutique hotel blending reverence for history and optimism for the future.
An eclectic blend of people, cuisines, and cultures, these bustling blocks became home to Cuban cigar makers, German printmakers whose box labels became pieces of art, and inspired individuals from all over the globe. Today, Ybor City is an architectural gem, with wrought iron balconies and colorful tile work, standout restaurants and shopping, and friendly neighborhood chickens.

"Flor Fina, the hotel’s upscale Latin restaurant and cocktail bar, is outfitted with sultry velvet booths, which lend the space an intimate feel, despite the yawning floor plan. The decor evokes a Cuban social club from the 1950s — it’s hard to tell where the lounge ends and the restaurants begins."
"Hotel Haya embodies everything special about Ybor City: exuberant Cuban, Italian, and Spanish influences. On a downtown street teeming with history, the project fuses two historic buildings with integrated new build construction: the ornate Las Novedades building, Tampa’s oldest restaurant built in 1890 and the Warren Building, where Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders are rumored to have haunted."
